Associated Builders and Contractors’ (ABC) annual Legislative Week, June 24-28 in Washington, D.C., is members’ greatest chance to educate Congress about the issues that affect their businesses and showcase the contributions they make to the construction industry and the U.S. economy.
This year, construction industry advocates will find a merit shop-friendly majority in both chambers of Congress. Ahead of the 2018 mid-term elections, the stakes have rarely been higher for the construction industry. After passing a historic tax cut, advocacy efforts will be extremely important, as this Congress will continue to build on pro-business legislative achievements. During Legislative Week, ABC members have the opportunity to leverage a receptive climate on Capitol Hill and send a powerful message to Congress about the construction industry’s priorities, such as fair and open competition and a meaningful investment in America’s infrastructure.
ABC’s fourth annual Diversity & Inclusion Summit kicks off Legislative Week, bringing industry leaders and key stakeholders together for thought-provoking discussions and solutions-based recommendations that help ABC members build diverse workplaces and supplier networks.
ABC’s Young Professionals Symposium headlines the second day, inviting leaders-in-the-making to learn the ins and outs of lobbying, grassroots advocacy, and the path to make an impact at the local and national level on important political issues. Also on the second day, The Free Enterprise Alliance (FEA) reception will provide ABC members with an evening of networking and rallying around the principles of free enterprise, effective government, and fair and open competition.
Legislative Week is anchored by the legislative breakfast—an opportunity for ABC members to enjoy inspiring calls to action from top administration officials, congressional leaders and other merit shop legislative advocates. ABC leadership also will provide an overview of the association’s legislative objectives ahead of members’ meetings on Capitol Hill with their congressional representatives.
The week culminates with ABC’s Legal Conference—a can’t-miss event for industry attorneys that addresses the latest developments and insights on employment and labor law and open competition. Attendees will hear from experts about the legal and regulatory issues that are confronting the merit shop and gain insights into the legal battles that ABC anticipates in the year ahead.
This June, be part of the collective voice to send one powerful message to Congress about ABC’s impact, from Main Street to the Capitol.
