Gov. Rick Snyder signed legislation creating the Michigan Infrastructure Council (HB 5335) and the Water Infrastructure Council (HB 5406) to manage the state’s transportation assets, private utilities, and drinking water, wastewater and stormwater systems. The groups are tasked with working together to track assets and develop an infrastructure investment strategy.
Water council members will serve three-year terms, while the governor and Senate and House leadership will appoint members of the infrastructure group.
Michigan earned a D+ on the American Society of Civil Engineers’ infrastructure scorecard issued last spring.
