With just a few weeks leading up to the 2020 presidential election, I trust that you will make your voices heard during one of the most formidable periods in American history. Households and businesses nationwide will be affected by the outcome of this crucial election, and the construction industry has much at stake.
I encourage all construction leaders, if they haven’t done so already, to read up about their local races, educate their colleagues and peers, and contribute to candidates who support their values. ABC, for example, offers an outline of voting records, policies and crucial legislation—such as the controversial PRO Act—at ABCVotes.com and myprivateballot.com.
In this issue’s Washington Update column, a political expert offers a snapshot of key Senate races and the potential outcomes.
Also, I also encourage you to read the profiles of two outstanding individuals–ABC’s Craft Professional and Craft Instructor of the Year—who are featured on the cover of the magazine every year. While the pandemic precluded us from celebrating these individuals live in person at the ABC Convention, we hope their stories will come alive for you in print.
Also, this issue highlights the 2020 Careers in Construction Awards, including the participants in the Construction Management Competition held virtually in August (abc.org/cmc) and the names of the National Craft Championships competitors who were scheduled to meet in Nashville. The competition will return in March 2021 at the Gaylord Texan in Grapevine, Texas (abc.org/convention).
