Gordian reported an 11% quarterly increase in plywood costs and a 3% increase in pine-board prices.

The national average cost of framing lumber was $915.88 per thousand board feet in July, according to Gordian’s RSMeans Data. That was down 0.08% from April and 2.15% from a year earlier, ending nine consecutive quarters of year-over-year increases.

The relatively flat framing-lumber figure masks a split among wood products. Gordian reported an 11% quarterly increase in plywood costs and a 3% increase in pine-board prices. Framing lumber was the only category it tracked that declined during the quarter.

Gordian cautions that its figures are national averages for reference; local market prices may differ. For contractors updating estimates or buyout assumptions, the July data suggests looking beyond the framing-lumber benchmark when pricing a package of wood materials.
