The U.S. House of Representatives voted 408-2 to approve the Water Resources Development Act (H.R. 8), which provides for improvements to the nation’s ports, inland waterways, locks, dams, flood protection, ecosystem restoration and other water resources infrastructure. A similar measure has been introduced in the Senate.

According to Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Bill Shuster (R-Pa.), the legislation prioritizes locally driven, but nationally vital, investments in water infrastructure and authorizes proposed U.S. Army Corps of Engineers civil works activities. It also builds upon previous USACE reforms to move projects forward more efficiently and at a lower cost.
