Massachusetts moved from third to first place on the U.S. Green Building Council’s annual list of the top 10 states for LEED, with a total of 136 LEED-certified projects representing 3.73 square feet of certified space per resident. Illinois and Colorado came in second and third, respectively, and are the only two states to make the list every year since 2010. New York ranked fourth (after a one-year hiatus from the list), followed by California, Nevada, Maryland, Virginia, Washington and Texas.
The rankings are based on U.S. Census data and include commercial and institutional green building projects certified during 2016.
