Bentley Systems gave 135 members of the international construction industry press an inside look at the company’s latest technology for designing, modeling, building and sustaining infrastructure during The Year in Infrastructure 2013 Conference at the Hilton London Metropole hotel, Oct. 28-31, 2013.

CEO Greg Bentley delivered the opening keynote address, which explored the company’s growth and provided insight into ongoing efforts to deliver on the full promise of BIM and “intelligent infrastructure.”

Other notable speakers included Sir John Armitt, former chairman of the Olympic Development Authority for the London 2012 Olympic games, and Andrew Wolstenholme, CEO of Crossrail, currently the largest infrastructure project in all of Europe.

The conferencealso featured presentations from finalists in Bentley’s annual Be Inspired Awards competition for outstanding achievement in infrastructure design, construction and operations. The 65 global projects demonstrated innovative use of Bentley solutions in 22 categories ranging from bridges, buildings and roads to structural engineering, construction, power generation and many others. The 2013 winners were announced at an awards banquet; complete descriptions of the project finalists are available in the full event program guide.

Bentley also announced several new technologies for contractors. While the company is best known for its MicroStation platform for infrastructure design and modeling, Bentley Systems has been aggressively expanding its ProjectWise solution for project team collaboration in recent years.

The theme of “information mobility” was persistent throughout the conference. Bentley is increasingly investing in mobile technologies and recently launched a number of free mobile apps, including Bentley Navigator and Field Supervisor for contractors working in the field.

Bentley said he expected Bentley Systems’ 2013 annual revenue to reach a record $600 million. With the company’s track record of investing in research and development, that bodes well for Bentley users. Since 2005, the company has invested more than $1 billion in research, development and a growing number of acquisitions. Founded in 1984, Bentley has more than 3,000 colleagues in 50 countries.
