From stories about architectural sound designers to the reasons everyone loves granite countertops, there are podcast topics for every dilettante and discipline—except construction. Two brothers set out to change that.
Matt and Eric Field, co-presidents of Wallprotex, were looking for stories, anecdotes, wisdom and honest analyses from executives with more years of experience. And thus “Conversations Around the Corner” came to be—a podcast for current and aspiring construction leaders.
The show includes long-form biographical profiles of the CEOs of top construction companies. The focus is not primarily about the CEO’s respective company, business trends or financials, but rather on the stories of their lives, walking through the earliest years and hunting for the hidden wisdom from fathers, mothers, project managers and superintendents along the way to the adventures (and misadventures) in executive leadership.
One of the earliest episodes features Glenn Granger, president and CEO of Michigan-based Granger Construction. The conversation covers wakeboarding, Harvard MBAs, building for Zaha Hadid and strategies for developing executives.
Another episode features Rob Burton, CEO of Alabama-based Hoar Construction. In this wide-ranging conversation, the hosts discuss Burton’s dream hunting gun, developing a leadership training program and the No. 1 thing to do to move into upper management.
