“I will positively contribute to our culture and community.” That mindset is essential to the Flintco ethos, which embodies more than 110 years of service. Founded in 1908 by C.W. and Pauline Kelley Flint, a Native American couple living in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the commercial construction company has since expanded to encompass licenses or registrations in 35 states, with seven full-service offices: Denver; Oklahoma City; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Memphis, Tennessee; Springdale, Arkansas; Austin, Texas; and Houston.
Thoughout its history, Flintco has forged deep relationships with organizations such as St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital. Flintco has supported St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital since 1992 and has raised more than $669,000 on its behalf since becoming an official corporate giving partner in 2016. That includes voluntary payroll deductions by employees (topping $184,000 to date) and other local fundraisers.
In addition, when faced with the unprecedented circumstance of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Flintco Foundation donated an additional $250,000 to support local organizations affected, including public schools, police and fire funds, hospital meals programs, foundations and food banks. Nearly 40 different institutions have benefited from Flintco’s generosity during the past 18 months.
“Flintco strives to be a good corporate citizen in the communities where we live and work,” says Dave Kollmann, Flintco’s president, central region. “The list goes on and on for what is available for employees to get involved in to and support their communities.”
That is because local offices prioritize partnerships by need. The Arkansas office supports many groups, including A Level Up Inc., and its annual Great Gift Exchange, which provides holiday gifts to children in need. Alternatively, the Memphis branch raises approximately ,000 annually from its Flintco Classic golf tournament, while Austin’s Flintco Open generates approximately ,000 annually.
Participating employees are recognized for their volunteerism in Groundbreakers, the company newsletter, and via the “Chairman’s Awards,” which recognize achievement in many areas, including the Humanitarian Award.
Carlos Freeman, assistant project manager in Oklahoma City, won the Humanitarian Award in 2020. “I believe those capable of helping others should do so,” Freeman says. “It has always been a passion of mine to do my best to enhance the lives of those around our community because it helps to promote growth for everyone. Flintco gives employees a platform to help.”
In 2021, the contractor held its first company-wide “Day of Service” in honor of the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Flintco’s 750 employees were encouraged to participate in their communities throughout the month of January. For example, the Tulsa office volunteered at the annual MLK Day parade, while the Arkansas office volunteered a day working with Habitat for Humanity. The initiative was such a success that another Day of Service is being planned for fall 2021.
Whether virtually, locally or nationally, these events are at the heart of Flintco’s company culture—and its influence on the communities it builds in each day.
