Here’s a look at employment moves that occurred in the construction industry this month.
American Society of Safety Professionals
Leigh Ann Blunt, a nationally recognized professor in the occupational safety and health field and member of the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) for 14 years, was named ASSP’s 2020 William E. Tarrants Outstanding Safety Educator. Blunt, Ed.D., CSP, is a safety sciences professor and chair of the School of Geoscience, Physics and Safety at the University of Central Missouri, where she has been a faculty member since 1999.
Burns & McDonnell
Steve Kellerman joined Burns & McDonnell to lead and expand construction services for transportation projects across the United States. Kellerman will support a range of alternative delivery transportation projects, including highways, bridges, roads and rail systems. Burns & McDonnell is a family of companies bringing together a team of 7,600 engineers, construction professionals, architects, planners, technologists and scientists to design and build critical infrastructure.
Callahan Construction Managers
Jack Callahan, founder of John T. Callahan & Sons, passed away recently from Alzheimer’s Disease. John T. Callahan & Sons was the construction company that paved the way for Callahan Construction Managers. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to First Lady Baker’s COVID-19 fund. Our condolences go to the Callahan family.
Current Builders
Michael Taylor was appointed CEO and president of Current Builders, a leading Florida construction firm. Taylor has been president since 2003, but assumed the role of CEO when Charles P. “Chip” Reid retired recently. Henry “Hank” Huisman, senior vice president, also retired from the company.
Hy-Brid Lifts
Brad Boehler was appointed to Hy-Brid Lifts’ Board of Directors. In this role, Boehler will tap into his years of industry experience in engineering and market development to help guide the strategic direction of Hy-Brid Lifts by Custom Equipment, LLC. Hy-Brid Lifts is an industry leader in high-quality, low-level access equipment.
International Code Council
Guy Tomberlin was named the vice president of plumbing, mechanical, fuel gas, and swimming pool codes programs and resources for the International Code Council (ICC). Tomberlin brings more than three decades of experience in code enforcement, policy implementation and training development. The ICC is a nonprofit association that provides a wide range of building safety solutions.
NCCER
Sean Ray, director of craft workforce development for Sundt Construction, was named vice chairman of the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) National Workforce Development Committee (WFD). He has been an active member of the WFD committee for eight years. NCCER is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) education foundation created by the construction industry to develop standardized curriculum with portable credentials and to help address the skilled construction workforce shortage.
Ruppert Landscape
Regina Brydges was promoted to regional business development manager of Ruppert Landscape. Ruppert Landscape has been an industry-leading provider of commercial landscape construction and management services for almost 50 years.
Telgian Engineering & Consulting
Sean Miller was named regional practice leader for Telgian Engineering & Consulting’s (TEC) Los Angeles office. Miller will be responsible for the overall leadership, management and growth of the region. TEC is is a worldwide provider of comprehensive fire, security, life safety consulting, testing and inspections, and engineering/design services.
Ware Malcomb
Edward Mayer has been promoted to principal, architecture in the New York and Newark offices of Ware Malcomb. In addition, Staci Tave joined the firm as studio manager, interior architecture and design in the Dallas office. Ware Malcomb is an award-winning international design firm.
WDS Construction
Steve Westra, director of WDS Works, recently retired from WDS Construction, Inc., a Beaver Dam, Wisconsin-based general contractor serving 48 states. Westra is a third-generation contractor who spent 55 years in the construction industry. He started by sweeping the floors at jobsites owned by his father’s construction business, of which he later served as president and CEO for 21 years.
