Precision Walls, Inc. (PWI) has grown into one of the nation’s largest specialty contractors by providing superior customer service and being a solutions-oriented contractor for more than 40 years. By partnering with its customers early in the project, PWI develops processes that allow the firm to maintain its commitment to quality, service and safety. PWI uses only the highest quality products and materials available, adheres to strict quality standards to deliver an outstanding finished product and provides the highest level of customer service in the industry. The company’s passion is building strong customer relationships and being the partner that helps drive jobs to successful completion. Family owned and operated by Loy & Elizabeth Allen since 1964, PWI is consistently ranked in the top 10 wall and ceilings contractors in the United States as recognized by Engineering News-Record. PWI first made its name in moveable and specialty wall systems. Continued request by customers led PWI to enter the commercial drywall market. For more than 40 years, the company has remained committed to innovation and continues to incorporate the latest advancements in technology to maximize its efficiencies. All organizations have a set of core values and culture; PWI prides itself in maintaining its fundamental identity—trust built on quality and honest hard work. Whether adding a door in an office or constructing a multistory office building, PWI has the solution. Its products and services include commercial drywall, acoustical ceilings and sound panels, operable and accordion partitions, temporary and demountable partitions, light gauge framing and trusses, prefabricated exterior panel systems, metal panel systems, fire stop systems and EIFS/Stucco.
Collaborative Medical Project
The Duke Medicine Pavilion is a major expansion of the Duke University Hospital system that adds 18 operating rooms, 43 acute care units for patients, and 160 critical care and intermediate beds in the 8-floor structure. The 800,000-square-foot project comes on the heels of the recent completion of The Cancer Center. The Duke Medicine Pavilion is a commitment to meeting the ongoing needs of the patients in North Carolina and around the world. Completing this endeavor required a trusted source for quality work, and PWI met that criterion both with the cancer center and the medicine pavilion. When it comes to state-of-the-art health care facility construction, PWI’s expertise in building patient rooms, surgery suites, research centers and medical office buildings has earned the trust of many repeat customers. The Duke Medical Pavilion project contains 1.8 million square feet of drywall, more than 1 million linear feet of framing, 150,000 square feet of shaft wall and 1,500 doors. To manage the change order process, the construction change directives (CCD) and the large number of RFIs, PWI leveraged automation elements that incorporate these changes both for office and field staff. Communication on a project this size is complex and an essential component of the build. Not only was PWI able to share changes with its internal team, but it was able to take project information directly to KBR Building Group (general contractor) and other trades to clarify issues and demonstrate progress and status. Tracing issues back to root problems in a timely and collaborative method made the use of Digital Production Control™ plan pages invaluable and eliminated the grey areas in project conflicts. Successful project progress is about bringing together historical project details, with current situations and planned procedures. Partnerships with the owner, Duke Medicine, and the general contractor, KBR Building Group, are at the heart of a winning project and PWI felt this was true to form in this project.
Building a Solid Reputation
Each job that PWI performs is executed with the objective of meeting the customer needs and expectations while ensuring a long-term relationship by attaining customer satisfaction. “There’s no such thing as good enough” is PWI’s mantra that is heard in the office and on the jobsite. This commitment to quality is what keeps customers coming back to work with PWI on projects. Just as customers turn to PWI, PWI turns to On Center Software to deliver automated solutions to improve accuracy in takeoff, identify and analyze risk factors in bidding, and increase crew productivity on projects.
