What Is Your Safety Catchphrase?
Andy Dupuy
Chief Executive Officer
Brown & Root Industrial Services
Baton Rouge, Louisiana
At Brown & Root, we strive to build a “ZERO Harm 24/7,” “Courage to Care” culture. When an unsafe condition or act is observed, it takes courage and a genuine willingness to intervene and take the necessary action.
Our “Courage to Care Conversation” process requires people to take immediate action upon observing unsafe acts—not only to correct the action, but to communicate personal safety standards and why safety is important. The process is instrumental in developing a continual awareness of unsafe acts through observation, intervention and conversation.
We also employ MyKey Stop Work Authority to reinforce 100% empowerment of all employees across all levels of the workforce. Brown & Root’s leadership is committed to the highest level of health, safety and environment performance. I am personally committed to the safety and health our entire team.
Paul Crivac
Safety Director
Three Rivers Corporation
Midland, Michigan
Safety is a part of who we are at Three Rivers Corporation. It is one of our core values, which are summed up by the acronmyn RISE—Respect, Integrity, Safety and Excellence. “Walk the Talk” originated and was designed by our craftworkers in the field and adapted as our safety tagline.
We ask all employees to be responsible for not only themselves on our jobsites, but for everyone else as well.
At Three Rivers, we have created an environment that promotes and supports safe and productive results for our employees, craft workers, customers, subcontractors and the communities in which we work. By applying better practices of effective training and employee engagement, we strive to ensure that every one of the men and women who work on our projects returns home safely each day.
All of these methods help us to “Walk the Talk” by leading and setting safety expectations by example.
Todd Donaldson
President
Hourigan
Richmond, Virginia
“Work Safe - Moment x Moment” is Hourigan’s safety mindset that not only demands safety on our worksites, but connects our partners to achieve the end goal. Our safety spirit is ever-present and reminds all to plan, do, check and act.
Nothing feels like success to me more than a well-managed project that sends everyone home in the same (or better) condition than when they started.
Hourigan’s safety culture is driven by a conscious workforce, agile management systems, and deliberate attention to anticipated and emergent risks. From orientation to closeout, workers at Hourigan are strongly encouraged through clear expectations to look out for themselves and to speak up for the protection of others. Our hope is that those who grasp and embrace this concept carry forward and introduce this mindset to coworkers, to friends and to family members—the people they are truly working for.
