Saudia Arabia doesn’t build small. The desert kingdom’s latest exercise in large-scale construction is New Murabba, billed as “the world’s largest modern downtown,” to be built over more than seven square miles in Riyadh.
At the center of this megaproject will rise another megaproject: the Mukaab, a hulking structure that—at 1,300 feet high, wide and long—will encompass 2.2 billion cubic feet of space. Inside there are plans for residential, commercial, retail and recreational spaces, including a tower sitting on a spiral base and, according to a press release, “an immersive experience created by digital and virtual technology with the latest holographics.”
New Murabba is scheduled to be completed in 2030.
