Construction and extraction is the occupational group with the highest male suicide rate, according to a CDC analysis of the 2012 and 2015 National Violent Death Reporting System. The rate of suicide per 100,000 male construction and extraction workers was 43.6 in 2012 and 53.2 in 2015 for a total of 2,257 deaths. The data encompasses civilian non-institutionalized workers ages 16 to 64 in 17 states.
