The surety industry continues to demonstrate strength, resilience and adaptability. Across the country, members of the Surety and Fidelity Association of America support public agencies, private owners and contractors, providing the financial capacity, expertise and confidence to move projects forward.

As projects become larger, more complex and more expensive, owners are relying on partners who can help them navigate those challenges with confidence. Rising construction costs, workforce challenges and increasingly evolving procurement methods make careful planning and experienced partners more important than ever.

Increasingly, private owners are recognizing the broader role surety plays, even when bonding is not required. Through contractor prequalification, financial accountability and experienced oversight, SFAA member companies help position projects for success.

Research confirms those benefits, showing that surety strengthens accountability and protects owners, contractors, suppliers and workers.

Creating Conditions for Success

Advocacy is central to SFAA’s work. Effective advocacy goes beyond legislation to include helping owners, policymakers and other stakeholders better understand the important role surety plays in successful projects.

Earlier this year, SFAA and the National Association of Surety Bond Producers NASBP hosted their largest legislative fly-in to date, bringing surety professionals from across the country to Capitol Hill for more than 155 meetings with lawmakers and staff.

One priority was bipartisan legislation to strengthen bonding protections under the Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act, helping ensure federally supported water infrastructure projects receive the same payment and performance bond protections that have long supported traditional public construction.

More broadly, those conversations focused on policies that help projects succeed, protect taxpayer investments and promote sound risk management.

Beyond Capitol Hill, SFAA and its member companies share their expertise every day, helping owners make informed decisions and position projects for success.

Investing in the Future

SFAA continues to invest in research and education, including an updated economic analysis currently underway that builds on years of industry research demonstrating the value of surety. This research reinforces that surety contributes to better project outcomes by strengthening risk management through contractor prequalification, ongoing oversight, lower default rates and protections for suppliers and workers.

Technology is reshaping the industry. Surety companies are evaluating how AI and other tools can support better decision-making, improve efficiency and strengthen the services they provide, while recognizing that experience and sound judgment remain essential.

The industry also has decades of experience and market insights to draw on. Combined with ongoing research and new technologies, those insights will continue to support better decisions, improve project outcomes and demonstrate the value surety delivers.

Preparing the next generation of industry leaders is equally important. This year, the SFAA Foundation awarded a record $90,000 in scholarships to 31 students through its Surety and Fidelity Intern and Scholarship Program, helping strengthen the industry’s future workforce.

Longstanding Commitment

As the construction landscape continues to evolve, the surety industry remains focused on what it has always done best—supporting owners, contractors and public agencies by protecting investments and delivering successful projects with confidence.

Working together, SFAA and its member companies will continue to support informed public policy, strengthen partnerships and help deliver the infrastructure projects that communities depend on. By building on the industry’s longstanding commitment to financial strength, expertise and integrity, we are well positioned to meet the challenges ahead while continuing to deliver value for owners, contractors, businesses, workers and taxpayers.
