The U.S. Department of Labor increased 2018 OSHA penalties 2 percent in compliance with the Federal Civil Penalties Inflation Adjustment Act. State OSHA programs are likely to raise their fines as well. The maximum federal penalty for repeat and willful violations is now $129,336, while the fine for both serious and not serious violations will top out at $12,934.
The new penalties, which took effect Jan. 2, apply to all violations occurring after Nov. 2, 2015.
