Here's a rundown of the latest in construction technology and software.

Products

Triax Technologies added access control capabilities to its Spot-r platform, providing real-time, end-to-end visibility into worker location, safety events and activities. The access control system includes the Spot-r Clip. IoT sensors are synched to a worker profile in the Spot-r dashboard so supervisors can manage worker certifications. Spot-r offers an end-to-end platform with real-time safety notifications, fall detection, evacuation alarms and equipment tracking and utilization.

Software & In the Cloud

Scope AR’s WorkLinkplatform is customizable with varying sets of functionality depending on customers’ needs and can be deployed across major platforms and select industry wearables. The updated platform includes Session Recording to capture important knowledge delivered during live support video calls for retention, future sharing and new insight into additional training needs and how processes can be improved; WorkLink Assist for real-time expert remote assistance; and WorkLink Create for quick and easy AR content creation for step-by-step work instructions.

With Prophix Software’s Corporate Performance Management software, contractors can allocate costs and resources across jobs and work orders to build resource plans for understanding hiring requirements to fulfill backlog and revenue goals; have real-time visibility into financial data using self-service interactive dashboards for an immediate snapshot of financial data and KPIs; “What-If” scenarios to model how changes to budgeted project costs affect profitability; and improved collaboration between field and office.

Casella’s NoiseSafe, used with Casella’s personal dosimeter thedBadge2, captures noise exposure in a single measurement for fast and efficient noise reporting, as well as analysis of noise exposure levels. The new software features instantaneous data and is capable of downloading a typical eight-hour workplace recording in just a few seconds.

GPS Insight now offers a roadside assistance solution powered by Allstate for their customers. Key features of the solution include vehicle towing; vehicle winching; fuel delivery; jump start and other minor roadside adjustments; flat tire changing; and lockout service.

Unity TechnologiesUnity Reflect puts BIM capabilities into the hands of AEC professionals on any device. Unity Reflect makes real-time data visualization and data collaboration possible with a Revit plug-in that exports BIM and CAD data in just one click. With Unity Reflect, design changes made in Revit will automatically sync across any device in real-time from mobile to desktop to virtual reality (VR) to augmented reality (AR). The integration of Revit is part of a broader collaboration between Unity and Autodesk to ensure full data interoperability between many Autodesk products and Unity.

Partnerships & Acquisitions

Newforma is partnering with Procore Technologies on Newforma’s Workflow Connector for Procore, which integrates Procore’s Submittal and RFI tools with Newforma’s design team focused review process. This integration will allow construction and design teams to work where they are most efficient without requiring anyone to double-enter data. The Newforma Workflow Connector will be available to Newforma customers in the third quarter of 2019.

Newforma is also integrated with the Autodesk BIM 360 platform, which will give users of Autodesk BIM 360 Design and Newforma Project Center a unified solution for searching and accessing project information wherever it resides.

BIMobject, a BIM content platform, is partnering with AEC Daily, developer of online construction educational courses, to streamline the process of taking AEC Daily’s educational CEU courses and connect the designer with the manufacturer-specific building products on BIMobject. Designers and contractors searching for products on BIMobject will find associated training course links.

Alliance Solutions Group has selected RedTeam project management platform for small and mid-sized commercial contractors as its preferred cloud-based project management provider. The partnership will enable RedTeam to reach more contractors throughout Alliance’s footprint.

Video & Cool Stuff

Altarum’s interactive online tool ValueofLeadPrevention.org enables policymakers, community leaders and residents to calculate the cost of childhood lead exposure in their state and the economic benefits of adopting interventions to reduce the risk of lead exposure, from replacing leaded drinking water service lines to eradicating lead paint hazards in older homes. A report, “10 Policies to Prevent and Respond to Childhood Lead Exposure,” offers additional information.

MIT’s autonomous robot boat prototype target and combine with one another to create new structures. According to MIT, “One of project’s objectives is to create roboat units that provide on-demand transportation on waterways… [and] use the roboat units to automatically form “pop-up” structures, such as foot bridges, performance stages, or even food markets… Additionally, the roboat units could be used as agile sensors to gather data on the city’s infrastructure, and air and water quality, among other things.” The roboats run on custom computer vision and control techniques and have a LIDAR system and camera. Each docking station — typically an unmoving roboat — has a sheet of paper imprinted with an augmented reality tag, called an AprilTag, which resembles a simplified QR code.
