Construction Safety Week (CSW), celebrated May 3-7 with the theme of “Be Present, Be Focused, Be Safe,” is representative of the overall goal to raise safety standards and “build a stronger, safer industry.” Participating construction companies and organizations shared their stories through social media and personal video testimonials.

“Staying safe this week and every week. Proud to see our people fully engaged on our San Antonio jobsites,” reads a tweet from Turner Construction Company in Texas.

“As a Hensel Phelps veteran, Oscar Sibrian has been a pinnacle of our zero-accident safety culture for two decades,” Hensel Phelps tweeted. “With plenty of experience, Oscar always sets the safety example on our jobsite for our people and partners. #CheckConnectCommit #ConstructionSafetyWeek

Promoting a holistic approach to safety this week, CSW’s website, constructionsafetyweek.com, offers several resources for contractors, such as daily discussion topics, jobsite banners, at-home family activities, materials in French and Spanish, topical videos and more.

A goal of this year’s campaign is creating access for many construction leaders still working from home, or too busy in the field for a lengthy lecture. As such, CSW has released a daily video on thematic subjects for construction leaders to learn from peers about replicable safety best practices.

For example, on Wednesday, May 5, Flintco and its team discussed mental discipline and the daily subject, “Be Relentless.” On Thursday, May 6, J.F. Shea Construction encouraged participants to “Be Safe, Be Well Rested.”

To add an air of excitement to this endeavor, CSW is conducting a Construction Safety Week Giveaway, with 10 total winners and a prize of $1,000.

New member companies joining the program in 2021 are Callahan Construction Managers, Cashman, Gaylor Electric, Hydro-Temp Mechanical and Kokosing Construction Company, adding to a group of established members that work nationwide across the commercial, institutional and industrial sectors.

Sponsors include: Associated General Contractors of America, Alliant, Aon, The Beavers, Caterpillar, Chubb, CNA, Construction Industry Round Table, DeWalt, Fastenal, GPRS, HDR, iHeart Media, JMJ, Kask, Manitowoc, Milwaukee, The Moles, National Academy of Construction, Orr Safety, Stantec, Travelers, Triax and Zurich.
