A new SmartMarket Report on The Business Value of BIM for Water Projects reveals that nearly half of the engineers, contractors and owners already using BIM do so on more than three-quarters of water/wastewater treatment and water-related mining/industrial projects. And within two years, the percentage of BIM users operating at this high level of implementation will grow from nearly half to almost two-thirds for water/wastewater projects.
The top project benefits experienced by those using BIM include better design solutions, reduced errors and omissions, and the ability to maintain quality. The top business benefits include working collaboratively with other companies, increased client satisfaction and an enhanced reputation as an industry leader.
While BIM use in other parts of the water sector—specifically tunneling, linear infrastructure and hydroelectric projects—is lagging, users forecast they will be dramatically increasing adoption during the next two years.
