Established in 1978, the Advisory Committee on Construction Safety and Health sets standards and policies for the Occupational Health and Safety Administration. The committee’s 15 new members—which include five employer representatives, five employee representatives, as well as members from the public, state and federal sectors—have just started their two-year term.

Greg Sizemore, vice president of health, safety, environment and workforce development for Associated Builders and Contractors, is one of these recruits.

“It is an absolute honor to continue to serve the construction industry in this capacity,” Sizemore says. “By assessing and advancing the safety conditions in the construction industry, I can help ensure employers are sending their employees home in the same—or better—condition than when they arrive on the jobsite.”

Sizemore is not only responsible for ABC’s STEP Safety Management System, he also manages a huge network of approximately 800 education programs.

“This important work takes leadership, dedication and partnership from all facets of our industry, and I’m looking forward to working in tandem with other committee members and OSHA to continue to raise the bar for safety in construction,” Sizemore says.

The next ACCSH Workgroup virtual meeting is on June 30 (according to OSHA). It will tackle topics such as trench safety and fall prevention, as well as the health issues of opioid abuse and suicide in construction.
