The Powerful Impact of Leadership

by | Jan 31, 2021

As 2021 begins, construction executives are recognizing the powerful influence of top leadership. What leaders say and do can be very impactful. In these challenging times, we are witnessing leadership’s ability to influence events that produce historical consequences.

In the months ahead, we can expect significant shifts in policymaking that will turn the tide for American citizens and construction companies. President Biden is set to implement several executive actions through executive orders, presidential memos and agency directives, impacting a range of federal policies including immigration, economic relief, climate change, infrastructure investment and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Construction Executive will continue to provide updates on presidential actions and their impacts on the construction industry moving forward. For a post-election overview as of press time, please read “What the 117th Congress Means for Construction.”

Our cover story, “Leading by Design,” highlights the life story and leadership vision of Steve Klessig, ABC’s incoming chair of the board of directors, who has served the association for decades, supporting efforts toward workforce development and industry advocacy. We proudly welcome Klessig and the 2021 ABC Executive Committee and national committee volunteers, and sincerely appreciate the time they consistently dedicate on behalf of construction companies nationwide.

Also in this issue, please read the detailed, in-depth special section on “Business Survival in the Age of COVID-19,” in which top executives and influencers share the strategies they’re using to provide safe jobsites, integrate tech innovations and remain agile and productive during our current business climate.

The year ahead holds much promise for construction leaders. As vaccines get in the arms of the population, we should see a positive trend in the pandemic’s impact to normalcy. This should restore confidence and cause the release of projects on hold or delayed. With 2020 behind us, the industry is well positioned for a brighter finish in 2021.
