Celebrate Safe Choices at Your Company May 7-11

This year’s Construction Safety Week focuses on the power of safe choices—both small and large—and their impact on the industry, community and each other.

Construction Safety Week 2018

Construction industry workers rely on each other to stay safe every day. On May 7-11, celebrate this shared commitment to safety on the jobsite and beyond as part of an industry-wide education and awareness event.

“The need to consistently make safe choices permeates every part of our lives. This must become a value that we live both at home and at work. That’s why individual choice is the focus of this year’s Construction Safety Week,” says Chris Traylor, co-president of Traylor Bros., Inc. “The choices we make have a tremendous impact on each other and the communities we serve.”

In addition to conducting safety awareness training activities and demonstrations on jobsites throughout the U.S. and Canada, industry leaders and other stakeholders will share why and how they make safe choices on social media. Get involved and empower others by making a pledge on Twitter and Instagram, tagging #SafetyWeek. These pledges will come to life in an interactive mosaic image posted at constructionsafetyweek.com.

“Anyone can be an advocate for safety,” says Steve Sereditch, director of safety at Allan Myers. “Step up, use your voice and make a change every minute, every day.”

Safety Week is also a great opportunity to remind employees about the little things that can keep everyone safe. This year’s Safety Week focuses on the power of safe choices—both small and large—and their impact on the industry, community and each other. Change it up each day of the week to cover different safety tips as needed.

To get started, here are some key topics for discussion that can be covered in morning team meetings or through special activities and events.

  • Preventative steps to take on the job to avoid risks or unsafe situations.
  • Ways to encourage fellow workers, family members and friends to be safe.
  • Encourage each another to spread the power of safe choices by sharing a safety story on social media using #SafetyWeek and #MySafetyPledge.
