“Star Trek” or “Star Wars”?

Definitely “Star Wars.”

What are your favorite fall activities?

Traveling to the mountains, Oktoberfest in Georgia, enjoying some cooler weather, seeing the trees change color and playing some golf on the mountain courses.

If you could fix one thing about the construction industry, what would it be?

Labor force and supply chain are together highest on the list. The supply chain relies on a labor force to produce materials we need for construction. Our subcontractors are not able to staff our projects because there are not enough qualified people to fill the open positions. We need qualified staff to manage our projects. All of these things impact our ability to finish projects according to our schedules.

How do you work to inspire your employees?

First, create an environment that is open and honest, so that everyone is willing to communicate freely. We have an open-door policy that promotes questions and conversation.

The goal is to build a strong leadership team that constantly gets feedback from the rest of the team. We instituted the EOS [Entrepreneurial Operating System] management program in 2018 and have fully rolled out to all levels within the company. This has been a great help with tackling day-to-day issues and setting our long-term goals.

We currently have the best team the company has ever had due to hiring people who love what they are doing and giving them a path to grow and move up within the company.

What is your favorite method of travel?

Plane is preferred—I have a flight booked for a short vacation [soon].

What is your hidden talent or hobby?

Regarding talent, I would have to say I’m a “Jack of all trades, master of none.” My hobbies are golf and fishing. I would also like to go snow skiing again.
