Giving back is part of Haley-Greer—from building a charity hub to supporting a homeless mission and more.

It’s been said that we make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give—and for Dallas-based Haley-Greer, that’s something of a guiding principle. From its inception in 1979, the curtain-wall glass and glazing group has fostered a company culture that puts generosity at the heart of everything it does. Today, the award-winning contractor serves the greater Dallas area in more ways than can be counted, most recently through its support of The Hope Center.

Located in Plano, Texas, the 185,000-square-foot center is home to more than 60 ministries that help disadvantaged groups across the globe, from orphaned children and amputees in the United States, to starving families in several African countries and beyond. In-kind donations from Haley-Greer and other organizations enable The Hope Center to support ministry programs that otherwise might be unable to carry out their charitable work due to the high operational costs of running a nonprofit. Specifically, Haley-Greer lent materials, time and labor to build a state-of-the-art conference and training room in the heart of the facility and continues to support the center through annual donations.

On a Mission

Also central to Haley-Greer’s outreach efforts is the Union Gospel Mission, located in downtown Dallas, which provides shelter for people experiencing homelessness. The mission offers immediate needs like food and lodging, as well as medical care, education, child care and even job training—equipping residents with a skill set that enables them to establish their independence when they leave. Haley-Greer has a longstanding relationship with Union Gospel that began with the company’s founder, Don Haley, and it continues to provide financial support and many hours of repair work for the mission each year under the direction of Letitia “Tish” Barker, Haley’s daughter and the company’s current owner and CEO.

“I’ve been with Haley-Greer for 17 years, and I can tell you that without a doubt, the Union Gospel Mission and The Hope Center are so near and dear to Mr. Haley’s heart,” says Chandra Stroope, business administration manager for Haley-Greer. “Mr. Haley and his daughter, Tish, both have hearts of gold. I’m honored to work for a company that values service above self, and I’m proud to have been involved with both of these wonderful organizations over the years.”

Above and Beyond

Indeed, service is so ingrained in Haley-Greer’s culture that it has become part of the company’s standard operating procedure—employees are assigned to work on pro bono projects as part of their everyday duties. “Our employees recognize and appreciate our commitment to serving our communities,” Stroope says, “and it gives them a great sense of pride to know that they’re able to contribute their talents in a meaningful act of community service while also working to provide for their livelihoods.”

Seemingly the smallest—but perhaps the most important—outreach activity occurs right within the walls of Haley-Greer’s offices, where employees are encouraged to ask for help when there’s a need to be filled. Whether that means offering financial donations to support youth sports or providing school supplies to a class of underprivileged children, Haley-Greer is always willing to do its part.

“We really do our best to support each and every one of our employees in their lives, because we’re a family, you know?” Barker says. “We’re all in it together.”
