In ABC’s 2021 Tech Report, Associated Builders and Contractors found that its Excellence in Construction® winners used drones on more than half of their projects. That trend continues to tick up as contractors find jobsites safer, more profitable and marketable with the use of drones.

It’s clear that these versatile machines are not just toys anymore, but rather necessary tools to help the industry become more innovative and efficient. They can be used for a variety of tasks, including:

  • Surveying: One of the key uses of drones is to provide a detailed and accurate view of a construction site. This can help contractors identify potential problems before they become major issues and help architects and engineers design and plan new projects more effectively.
  • Mapping: Drones can also be used to create detailed 3D models of a site, as well as track progress and detect issues as they arise. This allows construction professionals to stay on top of their projects and make adjustments as needed.
  • Site inspections: Another major benefit of drones is that they save time and money during onsite inspections. In particular, they can be used to inspect large sites quickly and efficiently, without the need for scaffolding or other equipment.
  • Monitoring: Drones can also monitor the environment around a construction site, using cameras, sensors and other equipment that can detect changes in temperature, humidity and other factors. This can help construction professionals make informed decisions and also help to reduce the risk of environmental damage.

Drones have proven to be an effective and efficient tool for contractors. With the ability to provide detailed and accurate views of a construction site, create 3D models, conduct inspections, monitor progress and detect environmental issues, drones can help improve the quality of construction projects, reduce costs and increase safety and profitability.
